Dental emergencies rarely happen at a convenient time. A tooth may fracture while eating dinner, an old filling may come loose over the weekend, or a sudden infection may cause significant pain and swelling. When something unexpected happens, patients often want to know whether they should wait for a regular appointment or seek urgent care.

At Best Natural Smile, we provide emergency dental evaluations for patients experiencing sudden or worsening dental concerns. Our goal is to identify the source of the problem, relieve discomfort when possible, and determine what treatment is appropriate.

We serve Santa Monica and surrounding areas, including Marina Del Rey, Pacific Palisades, and West Los Angeles.

What Happens When You Walk In?

An emergency dental visit typically begins with a discussion about what happened and what symptoms you are experiencing. We may ask when the pain or injury started, whether symptoms have changed, and whether you have noticed swelling, bleeding, sensitivity, or difficulty chewing.

Dr. Ariela Feitelberg then examines the affected area. Digital X-rays may be recommended when additional information is needed to evaluate the tooth, roots, surrounding bone, or other structures that cannot be seen during a visual examination.

The goal is to get a clear understanding of the problem before recommending treatment.

Common Dental Emergencies

Emergency dental care can involve many different situations. Some of the concerns we evaluate include:

  • Severe or persistent toothaches
  • Cracked or broken teeth
  • Knocked-out teeth
  • Dental abscesses
  • Facial or gum swelling
  • Lost fillings
  • Broken crowns or bridges
  • Persistent oral bleeding
  • Sudden wisdom tooth pain

Not every dental emergency requires the same type of treatment. A chipped tooth may require a simple restoration, while an infected or severely fractured tooth may require more extensive care.

Same-Day Treatment When Recommended

Whenever possible, treatment can begin during the emergency visit. Depending on the condition, this might include repairing a damaged restoration, treating a painful tooth, addressing an infection, or performing an extraction when the tooth cannot be predictably saved.

In some cases, additional treatment or a referral may be necessary. If that happens, we explain the recommended next step and why it is being suggested.

When Should You Seek Emergency Care?

Severe pain, facial swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, significant dental trauma, or symptoms of infection should not be ignored. A dental problem that appears manageable initially can become more complicated if treatment is delayed.

Santa Monica dentist Dr. Feitelberg combines modern diagnostic technology with personalized emergency care to help patients understand what is happening and what can be done about it.

If you experience an unexpected dental problem, our team is here to provide prompt evaluation and guidance for patients throughout Santa Monica, Marina Del Rey, Pacific Palisades, West Los Angeles, and nearby communities.
